Daubert Cromwell Develops “Sustainable Series” of Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) Packaging

Alsip, IL - After years of research, manufacturer Daubert Cromwell has developed a full line of corrosion inhibitor (VCI) products that meet recognized standards as "sustainable" packaging. Its new Sustainable Series includes rust preventive films, papers, and liquids that are safe for humans and the environment.

"The push for sustainable packaging is gaining significant traction," said Dr. Jonathan Brekan, Vice President Technology. Putting it in context of VCI packaging for industry, he said, "We are helping our customers achieve their own sustainability goals by offering products that meet the low-carbon footprint, recyclability, low-toxicity targets. We can help them meet their own environmental goals without sacrificing quality."

Defining "sustainability" and its relevance to industrial packaging on a global scale became a team project for Dr. Brekan and his ISO accredited R&D lab in Alsip, IL. They took a two-prong approach:

  • Understanding how Daubert Cromwell could be a good corporate citizen by following practices to reduce, reuse and recycle in its own production processes, and;
  • Supporting customers with VCI products meet their own sustainability goals.

This direction is largely led by US and European regulatory agencies that monitor industry's impact on the global environment. Daubert Cromwell researched how its products could follow policies as outlined by REACH, RoHS, California Prop 65, and numerous international standards governing environmental impact of such materials as packaging.

"A major part of being a good corporate citizen is making sure that the people using our products are safe," Dr. Brekan continued. "We focus on corrosion inhibitor technologies that are bio-sourced, have low toxicity profiles and meet increased regulatory scrutiny."

The resulting Sustainability Series is a collection of effective, environmentally friendly VCI choices that provide industrial customers with packaging options that suit the application. The selection of films, papers, rust preventive liquids and rust removers includes:
